Class: Industry and Audience

 Industries 1) What was the objective of BBC3 when it was launched? You can find the answer in the notes above. To produce a good tv show for young adults to watch and be entertained and also for whovians to watch. 2) Why did BBC3 go online-only in February 2016?  The budget was cut by £100 million and had to be cut as a channel and turned into an online streaming service. 3) How does Class meet the BBC's mission statement to 'inform, educate and entertain'? Class definitely meets the statement to entertain but not so much the other two, it meets the entertain part because its a horror sci fi teen genre show that is entertaining but it doesn't have any lessons or education parts. 4) How did the distribution of Class contribute to the failure of the show with audiences? The first teaser for the show had a lot of doctor who in it which may of lead the audience to think it was another show with doctor who in it whereas the show only has a few scenes with doctor who. 5) ...

Has it changed since 1963? 12-65 year olds, in 1963 males were more of a target audience however now the woman audience has grown by 22% 2) What audience psycho-graphic groups might particularly enjoy Doctor Who? Main streamers , reformers and explorers because of the sci-fi 3) What audience pleasures are offered by An Unearthly Child? Apply Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory to the episode. Make sure you provide specific examples from the episode to support your ideas. Personal Identity: High school setting, pop music, rebellion in the TARDIS. Personal Relationships: Cliffhanger, worried about the teachers, doctor seems like the villian. Diversion (Escapism): Sci-fi genre, mystery, crime, future.     Language and close-textual analysis 1) Choose three key moments in the episode and write an NCIS analysis for those clips. You can use your notes from the screening in class.
