1) How have our music listening habits changed since 1960?

People now depend on music, the kind of music you listen to now reflects your personality and life would be boring without music, the genres of music you listen to could also reflect your emotions, its like a safe place for some people.

2) When did Apple Beats 1 Radio launch and what is it?

It launched in 2015 its a free live streaming global radio station.

3) What is the difference between Beats 1 Radio, iTunes and Apple Music?

Beats 1 is a radio station with DJs, iTunes is a music store and Apple music is a music streaming service.

4) Why was Apple so keen to enter the online music world and compete with Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music (and others)?

To market apple music, to boost iTunes purchasing and to gain more control of the streaming market.

5) Why did Apple choose the three selected DJs for launch? 

To represent different music scenes.

6) How does the use of DJs differ from Spotify, Amazon Music and other streaming services? 

It allows the audience to come back and listen to their favourite DJs, they relate and will listen to the recommendations that the DJs give and talk about.

7) How does the content of the Julia Adenuga show differ from Radio 1? 

Shes more informal and relatable to the audience.

8) Why does Beats 1 radio give Apple the power to make or break new artists? Is this a good thing or a bad thing for the music industry?

Because whatever the DJ thinks will mirror the public's opinion on the artist so if the DJ doesn't like them then the public wont.

9) Read the BBC feature on the launch of Apple Beats 1 Radio. Did the industry experts think it would be a success? Why?

They thought it would be a success because apple is a big company and listening to  a DJ talk about songs was better than listening on a streaming device.


1) Who is the target audience for Beats 1 and Julia Adenuga in particular? Refer to demographics and psychographics.

Young adults, middle class.

2) Why do people listen to Beats1? Which aspects of Blumler and Katz’s Uses and Gratifications theory relate to Beats 1 and its audience?

People would watch it for Personal identity because music would help them find themselves. Also personal relashionship with the DJ.

3) Can the audience actively interact with the Apple Beats 1 Radio or are they passive when listening? How? Give examples. 

Its passive because your listening online, unless you can call in like capital FM.

4) Is Apple Beats 1 aimed at a mass or niche audience? How does this differ to BBC Radio 1?

Im not sure but since apple is a big company maybe a mass audience??

5) Do you think Apple Beats 1 radio will be popular with young audiences or are streaming services the future of audio-based media?

I think streaming services will still be on top like spotify and deezer and apple music.
