Preliminary exercise (Phone conversation 30 secs)

 Task: Create a phone conversation between two characters in two different locations which reveals a dramatic narrative resolution. The narrative and conversation needs to be appropriate to the science fiction or fantasy genre and an audience of teenagers and young adults. 

Statement of intent: I want to make a 30 second clip from a sci-fi fantasy TV show called  'Almost twins' The story line will consist of  a girl calling another girl whom doesn't know her and is trying to convince her to meet up and show her that they're the same person. One character might be dressed in school clothes because they 'just got out of school' and the anonymous caller would be dressed in casual clothing. I will film the scenes multiple times to have options on what would be better to include in the final draft. I will try my best at cross cutting the conversation. (105 words)

                                     *watanpreet picks up the phone*                                                           
                                                 ...*silence 2 secs*                                                                              
            w:  hello? 
            ac: ...you don't know me but you need to meet me..its urgent
            w:  i dont have time for spam calls goodbye

                                                 *phone call ends*
                 *watanpreet starts walking away from the camera as it pans away*
                                           *phone vibrates in her pocket*

             ac: THIS IS IMPORTANT.. i .. am .... you.
             w: ha ha.. funny bye.

                           *the camera reveals the anonymous callers face*
                                           *sfx and end the scene*

ac = anonymous caller
w = watanpreet 
** = stage directions
            
Casting: Watanpreet as the MC (heroine)
                Watanpreet as the villain/caller

Location: Field an Unidentified place of caller. 

Shot list: close up on heroines face, pan across field whilst MC walks away from camera, close up on the *no caller ID* phone screen, then a full body shot on the 'villain' as i reveal who it is, long shot on the location of where MC is.

  Current mark: 5 Approximate grade: 5 WWW: This is a clear statement of intent with a good idea for a TV drama sequence that meets the science fiction/fantasy genre brief. There are some nice creative touches and a clear understanding shown of target audience. Specific reference to media language and representation holds this back from the upper levels. EBI: There’s a little too much narrative development – keep this to just a sentence or two so you are not using too many words on description. The biggest issue is a lack of specific media language planning – you say what shots you plan to film but not why you will do it and the effect this will have on the audience. You need to use terminology and discuss the connotations of the media language choices you are planning. The main areas to do this are the camera shots, mise-en-scene, sound or editing (write about specific camera shots you will use and what they will communicate to the audience, specific aspects of mise-en-scene in detail

 1) A preferred reading of a text is the mindset the producers want you to take away from the piece of media that they are showcasing to you. 2) The oppositional reading is the mindset the producers don't want you to take away from the piece of media, basically the opposite of a preferred reading. It is also the reading when people disagree with the advert and preferred reading. 3) In the trailer Harry Brown want the audience to feel like the teens are a threat and dangerous, he wants the audience to feel as if the teens are the evil or bad guy in the film e.g. the use of weapons and language used but also the clothes they are wearing and the body language. 4)People or teens may reject this mindset and have an oppositional reading because they don't believe the stereotype that ALL teens are a threat to vulnerable people and that teens are dangerous murders. 5) The preferred reading for the McDonald's advert is for the audience to see or watch it and to want to buy and eat t
